Another home improvement project!
It never fails...we get this home improvement bug...suffer through it all and swear never to do another one...then we catch the bug again! This time I wanted to change out the fan/light in the dinning area. We decided that we also wanted to move the position of the light on the ceiling. Mike said since we have to cut another hole in the ceiling and then patch it up we might as well take down the popcorn texture off the ceiling and resurface it. Sounds like a simple enough job. Yeah right!! Mike took down the light fixture and then the fun started:
step 1: I cleared all the furniture etc. out of the dining room and stacked it in the family room.
step 2: We bought some plastic and put it on the tile to catch the popcorn from the ceiling.
step 3: Jimmy and I put on the face masks, eye protection, covered our heads...(scared the dog) and were ready for step 4!
step 4: My bright idea...bring in the carpet cleaner and use the hand wand to spray the popcorn onto the ceiling to wet it. I did this part...water dripping onto my eye protection so that I couldn't see, white stuff dripping all over my head and arms...sweating because of all the gear I was wearing in the heat!
step 5: Jimmy got the ceiling scraper and worked on getting the popcorn down. That part went smoothly...the popcorn came down pretty easy.
step 6: Pick up the plastic while trying to keep all the popcorn from getting all over the house! This part was difficult...the stuff managed to get onto the floor all around the plastic.
step 7: The worse part! We made a big mistake by not covering all the walls...had to wash down all the walls...the floor...the shelves...took forever!
step 8: Mikes part-patch blemishes in sealing...sand.
step 10: paint...paint...and paint again!
Step 11: put up new chandelier.
step 12: replace all the furniture and decorations.
Step 13: stand back and admire the new ceiling and swear to never ever do it again...
